Install Bacula#

If you don’t have Bacula installed yet, you can use Bacularis to install it. This functionality is available directly through the Bacularis installation wizard.

If you prefer to install Bacula manually and configure Bacularis afterward, that’s perfectly fine. In that case, you can skip this section.

What is required?#

  • Bacularis version 4.0.0 or greater.

  • Operating system suported by Bacularis to this type of installation:

    • AlmaLinux 8

    • AlmaLinux 9

    • CentOS 8 / RHEL

    • CentOS Stream 8 / RHEL

    • CentOS Stream 9 / RHEL

    • Debian 11 Bullseye

    • Debian 12 Bookworm

    • Debian 13 Trixie

    • Fedora 39

    • Fedora 40

    • Fedora 41

    • Fedora 42

    • Oracle Linux 8

    • Rocky Linux 8

    • Rocky Linux 9

How to do it?#

After successfully installing the Bacularis files and starting the web server, open your web browser and navigate to:

http://yourhost:9097

Log in using the default credentials:

user: admin
password: admin

You should now see the Bacularis installation wizard.

Step 1 - General#

In the first step of the wizard, when asked:

Do you have Bacula installed on this host?

Select No.

Then, choose your operating system from the dropdown menu.

Enter your system administrator credentials in the System admin login and System admin password fields.

Note: Bacularis does not remember and does not store these credentials—neither here nor anywhere else. They are used only at the moment they are used (“on the fly”).

If your system uses sudo, check the Use sudo box. This is applicable when using a non-root administrator account.

Since version 4.6.0, a Test credentials button is available, allowing you to verify your login details before starting the installation.

Click Install Bacula to begin the installation.

Once Bacula is successfully installed, the wizard will automatically skip Steps 2 through 4 and move directly to Step 5. This is because Steps 2–4 are completed automatically in the background during the installation process.

Step 5 - Authentication#

Enter the desired username and password that will be used for the Bacularis admin user.

Step 6 - Summary#

Review the summary page. If all the information is correct, proceed to finalize the setup.

At this point, Bacula and Bacularis are fully configured and ready to use.

Important notes#

  • This process installs a complete Bacula environment, including:

    • Bacula Director

    • Bacula Storage Daemon

    • Bacula File Daemon (Client)

    • PostgreSQL database server

    • Bacula Console

  • Bacularis is automatically configured to work with the installed Bacula environment. No further manual setup is required after completing the wizard.

  • The installation uses binary packages from your system’s native package manager. For example, on Debian, Bacula will be installed from the official Debian repositories.

  • The installation process in the Bacularis wizard is repeatable. If the installation fails for any reason (e.g., insufficient privileges, missing sudo, etc.), you can try again. Use the Raw output tab during installation to check for any specific errors or issues that need to be addressed.
