Create Bacula Windows client#
Bacula Client is a source from where backups are done and it is the destination for restoring where backups are restored.
This documentation section will help you to create a new Bacula Client and use it with Bacula and Bacularis.
What is required?#
Any version of the Bacularis web interface
Remote Windows host
How to do it?#
Install Bacula Client#
Preparation#
To install the Bacula Windows client you need to download the Bacula Client installer from:
https://www.bacula.org/binary-download-center/
Please download the Bacula Client installer and save it on the Windows host.
Please run the Bacula Client installer. In the new window you will see the installation wizard steps.
Step 1 - Welcome#
On this step you can see the welcome message and advices about the installation.
Step 2 - License agreement#
You need to accept the license.
Step 3 - Installation type#
There are two installation types:
Automatic - install and configure most settings in the automatic way.
Custom - adapt the installation and configuration to your needs.
You can choose any installation type. In this documentation section we choose the
Custom
type to install the Bacula Client only (without any additions) and to
configure it.
Step 4 - Choose components#
On the Bacula component list to install please choose: Client => File Service
.
Step 5 - Choose install location#
In this step there is nothing to change.
Step 6 - Configuration#
In the Name
field you can change the default Client name. It can be any name.
In the Password
field you have already generated random password. This password
will be used by the Bacula Director to connect to the Bacula Client. Please
temporary copy the password somewhere or type your own strong password in this field.
It will be needed in next steps.
Step 7 - Configuration (continued)#
Please type your Bacula Director name. If you don’t know or don’t remember the Director name, you can check it on the Bacularis web interface. To do it, please go to the web interface here:
[Main menu] => [Page:Director] => [Tab: Configure director] => [Field: Name]
Step 8 - Installing#
You should be able to see the installation progress bar. Please wait on the process finish.
Step 9 - End#
Finish the install wizard.
Add new Client to Director#
After installing the new Bacula Client at the end you need to let the Director know about this new client. It is adding the Client definition to the Bacula Director configuration. This step is sometimes called the Client registration with the Director. Without adding/registering the Client, it cannot be used for backup.
To add this Client to the Director, please go to the Bacularis web interface to this path:
[Main menu] => [Page:Clients] => [Button: Add client]
In the new client form please fill at least the following fields:
Name - new client name in the Director configuration. This name is used to identifying the Client in the Bacula Director and in the Bconsole as well.
Address - Client address field. In this case it is the Windows host address.
Password - password that we configured in the Bacula Client on the Windows host in the installer. This is the password that you remembered in Step 6 - Configuration.
Catalog - Bacula Catalog name used to be used with this Client.
After completing the form fields you can click the Create
button to
create the new Client configuration for Director.
The Bacula Windows client is ready to use with Bacula.
Important notes#
To check if the Director is able to connect to this new Bacula Client, you can use the Bacula Client status for that. It is available in this path:
[Main menu] => [Page:Clients] => [Table row with new Client] => [Button: Details] => [Button: Status client]
If everything went well, you will be able to see the status from this new Client.
If there is a problem with getting the Client status, please check the firewall
setting (if used) or other services that could block the connection between:
Director => Client (TCP 9102)
