Our October project report is here! Take a look at what we've been working on, explore the latest developments, and find out what's coming next for Bacularis.
Hello Community,
It's been over a month since our last report, and quite a lot has happened in the Bacularis project during that time. If you're curious about what we've been up to and what's coming next, we invite you to read our October project report.
First of all, in mid-September, we successfully released Bacularis 6.5.2, which included security fixes and application hardening improvements. This release involved a considerable amount of work, particularly in reviewing the application's security and strengthening its defenses.
Next, we spent some time helping users learn more about Restore Verification. We started a series of materials dedicated to this feature, publishing the first articles and two video tutorials. In the upcoming parts, we plan to cover the Native Bacula Verify method and troubleshooting Restore Verification.
If you'd like to follow this series, we've also created a dedicated hub page where you can find all the materials in one place. New content will be added there as it becomes available:
Another major milestone was the preparation of a new major Bacularis release. On October 9, we successfully released Bacularis 7.0.0. One of the most important additions in this release is Ransomware Detection.
Developing this feature was a very interesting challenge and a new experience for us. We shared some insights into this work in our article, "Inside the development of ransomware detection in Bacularis", on Bacularis.app. We're happy that we were able to bring Ransomware Detection to our users and provide Bacula environments using Bacularis with another tool to help protect their backup data.
We're currently working on a new Bacularis plugin for backing up InfluxDB databases. The idea for this feature came from a feature request submitted by a member of our community, @michaeldolzani, on the Bacularis Users Group.
This is where we're currently focusing a significant part of our development efforts.
We're now at an advanced stage of developing the InfluxDB plugin. Once this work is complete, we'd like to return to the topic of protecting data stored in backups and develop another feature in this area.
We've already started exploring ideas for this new feature, but it's still too early to share more details.
If everything goes according to plan, we'd like to include both the InfluxDB plugin and this second new feature in Bacularis 7.1.0. We're planning to release this version in the first half of November.
In the meantime, we also want to complete our series of articles and video tutorials about Restore Verification on Bacularis.app.
We encourage you to follow our news and social media channels. As always, we share the latest information about what's happening in the Bacularis project.
That's all for this report. Thank you for being part of our community and for using Bacularis. See you again soon.
On behalf of the Bacularis Team,
Marcin Haba
