The Bacularis Project Objectives
Below you can find the goals of the Bacularis project — the ones we are currently pursuing and the ones we aim to achieve in the future. These are the exact directions in which we want to take Bacularis.
Main Goal
Bacula is a fantastic backup solution that deserves a robust web interface. Our goal is to deliver the best web interface for Bacula, accessible to everyone. With Bacularis, both advanced system administrators and newcomers to Bacula can easily configure complex Bacula backup environments.
Openness
Our aim is to provide Bacularis as an open-source application. We are committed to keeping Bacularis open-source forever for everyone — this is a fundamental condition for running this project.
But openness is not just about code — it’s also about mindset. Within the Bacularis community, we strive to be open to users, their needs, and their feedback regarding the interface. Anyone can contribute to the project: an idea, a bug report, or any comment. We may not implement every suggestion, but we value every form of engagement.
Community
We want to build a strong community around Bacularis. This is a key pillar of our project — without it, the other goals would lose their meaning. Bacularis is created by the community, for the community. We welcome every user’s involvement and strongly encourage participation. Every contribution, no matter how small, matters.
From Individual Users to Large Enterprises
Our goal is for Bacularis to be a universal tool that works equally well for individual users, small offices, institutions, schools, and large enterprises. Its features should also align with the needs of Managed Service Providers (MSPs), enabling the Bacularis interface to be used in MSP offerings — for example, as Backup as a Service (BaaS).
Promoting Bacula
Bacularis is not just a web interface — it’s also a tool to promote the open and free Bacula Community software, encouraging users to adopt it as their backup solution. We are passionate not only about Bacularis but also about Bacula itself. Without Bacula, there would be no Bacularis — and none of this would have happened. We are happy that through Bacularis we can help advance this mission.
