A new month brings another Bacularis Project Report. Take a look at what has been happening around the project in recent weeks, what we are currently working on, and what we are planning for the near future.

Hello Community,

August has brought several positive developments across Bacula-related projects. As many of you have probably heard, Bacula 17.0.0 beta has been released. This is great news for the Bacula community. Meanwhile, quite a lot has also been happening in Bacularis. Below you will find a short summary of the past few weeks. We invite you to read the latest Bacularis Project Report.

What happened

As planned, we released Bacularis 6.4.0 at the end of July. It includes many changes and improvements, with one of the most notable being the new Simple Restore mode designed for large environments with millions of files. We also had an interesting discussion about this feature on the Bacularis users forum. Thank you for all the valuable feedback regarding 6.4.0.

We also refreshed the look of our Bacularis.app website to better match modern web standards. We kept the existing overall layout, but updated the graphics, styles, and some of the content. We hope this makes the website clearer and more pleasant to use.

We also published a new video on our YouTube channel. It is a video guide to file relocation options when restoring data in Bacularis. We hope it will be useful to everyone. More new content will also be coming to the YouTube channel soon.

What is happening now

There is quite a lot going on at the moment. First of all, we have good news for French-speaking Bacularis users. A member of our community, Philippe Ramage (@pra75020), has taken on the task of updating the French translation of Bacularis. Work on preparing the updated translation is currently underway.

As for other developments, since the beginning of the month we have also been working on a new, larger Bacularis feature. At this stage, we do not want to reveal the details yet. The implementation work is now well advanced. Once it is complete, we plan to move on to intensive testing.

What is ahead

We plan to release Bacularis 6.5.0 at the beginning of September. The release will include the new feature mentioned above. We also want to add the changes needed to provide full support for the upcoming Bacula 17.0 release. Work on Bacula 17.0 compatibility has not started yet, but we plan to complete it before the end of August. If the French translation is also ready by then, it will be included in the same release.

That is all for the August report. Thank you for reading and for your interest in the development of the project. See you in the next updates from the Bacularis world.

On behalf of the Bacularis Team,
Marcin Haba
