Here's the new June report from the Bacularis project. See what's going on.
Hello everyone,
Late May and early June have been a very busy period for the Bacularis project. We released two new versions, delivered fixes for reported issues, prepared package updates for supported systems, and started working on the biggest visual refresh in quite some time. If you would like to hear what has been happening in Bacularis, we invite you to read our latest project report.
We successfully released version 6.2.0. Its main highlight is a new plugin for Amazon EC2 backups.
Thank you very much for your early feedback on this release. Thanks to your reports, we quickly learned that version 6.2.0 introduced a bug that prevented Bacularis from working behind a reverse proxy. After identifying the root cause, we were able to release a follow-up update, version 6.2.1, which restored reverse proxy compatibility.
In version 6.2.1, we also fixed an issue reported by one of our users that affected Bacula installation through Bacularis on Debian systems where the Perl package was not installed.
Thank you for your vigilance in identifying issues and reporting them. Your feedback helps make Bacularis better with every release.
Over the past few weeks, some of the operating systems we support have introduced additional security mechanisms and configuration changes related to system hardening. In certain cases, these changes required adjustments in Bacularis to maintain compatibility.
We have been providing updates about these developments through our Bacularis.app service [LINK]. In addition, we decided to publish updated binary packages for all supported repositories to ensure Bacularis remains aligned with these system changes.
We do our best to keep Bacularis up to date with evolving platforms, but it is impossible for us to track every change across every supported operating system. That is why reports about potential incompatibilities or unexpected behavior are extremely valuable to us. They help us prepare Bacularis before these changes reach stable distribution repositories.
One of the biggest interface updates in Bacularis in many years is just around the corner. We hope this change will be an exciting surprise for the entire community.
We are currently working on version 6.3.0, whose primary feature will be a completely refreshed user interface. These changes span multiple areas and bring Bacularis closer to a modern, enterprise-grade visual experience.
The update includes a new look and feel, a refreshed color palette, a new font, several navigation improvements, and many other refinements. The goal is to improve interface readability, increase visual consistency, and provide a better user experience on both large monitors and smaller screens.
Development of the new design is already at an advanced implementation stage. In the coming days, we will publish a dedicated article to share progress updates, showcase preview screenshots, and gather feedback from the community.
For now, we would like to share two screenshots of the new dashboard: [LIGHT MODE] and [DARK MODE].
For users of themes available in our theme catalog at addons.bacularis.app, we will do our best to maintain compatibility so that existing themes continue to work with Bacularis 6.3.0. In some cases, installing an updated version of the theme may be required. Users who are not using themes from addons.bacularis.app will automatically receive the new appearance after upgrading to Bacularis 6.3.0.
We are planning to release version 6.3.0 in the second half of June. In addition to the new interface, version 6.3.0 will include updates to the JavaScript libraries used by Bacularis, along with several other smaller improvements.
As always, we encourage you to share your feedback, report issues, and suggest new features. Your feedback helps us improve Bacularis and make it better for everyone.
That brings us to the end of this report. We hope you found it useful. We wish you a great June, and we look forward to seeing you in the next update.
Talk to you soon.
